Insurance is required primarily for medical coverage but also for loss or damage to luggage, theft or loss of property. Travel insurance is easily obtainable either on-line or from your local Post Office.
Please note that, in general, Travel Insurance only covers personal belongings up to the amount of £200. Any property you are taking on the trip of a higher value such as cameras, video cameras, laptops etc. should be covered separately. You may find these are covered on your home insurance policy. Please note mobile phones are not covered under most travel insurance policies.
WE STRONGLY RECOMMEND THAT YOU HAVE TRAVEL INSURANCE COVER.
Whilst Venice is not known for its vibrant nightlife, this is one of the most romantic cities in the world. Most visitors choose to visit the many bars and cafes for drinks and socialising. The city does offer a variety of venues for live music but most of the lively nightclubs are located on the nearby mainland.
Two of the most popular spots are the Bacaro Jazz Club and, of course, The Fiddlers Elbow, Irish bar. It should also be said that the rooftop bar at the Hilton is probably one of the best in the city to enjoy the spectacular views. For those who are interested, Venice is home to one of the oldest casinos in the world….if you feel lucky!
Passports & Visas
Visas are not required for UK and European passport holders. Passports should be valid for 3 months after your intended length of stay. Please check with Russell Gilbey if you do not hold a UK or EU Passport as you may require a visa.
As in all major cities, Venice does have a (small) crime element, albeit mainly petty pick-pocketing. Please ensure that you keep handbags, wallets and cameras etc. secure when you are out and about. It is advisable to take extra care at night by not being out on your own and it is advisable to take the hotel’s complimentary water shuttle service to and from the hotel.
Shopping hours vary greatly in Venice but larger shops are generally open from 9.00am – 7.00pm. Smaller shops often close in the afternoons and re-open in the evenings. Tourist shops tend to open most of the time, with the exception of Monday mornings.
