In a year that has witnessed significant change in our industry, we are delighted to invite you to a truly amazing venue for our 2018 conference that has seen significant change of its own.
Venice was once one of the most powerful players on the European stage; an economic powerhouse which forged a mercantile empire in the Adriatic and Eastern Mediterranean. The wealth and prestige of Venice were largely based on trade and negotiation and over time it has become one of the most famous cities in the world.
Venice was ranked the most beautiful city in the world as of 2016.
The hotel that has been chosen for this year’s conference has also undertaken significant change, beginning life as a flour mill, before being abandoned for 50 years and falling into severe disrepair with no happy ending in sight.
However, now lovingly restored, the building has become one of the most iconic buildings in all of Italy. View the video here>
The Molino Stucky has been chosen for the conference not only because of its stunning location, but also for its excellent conferencing facilities – with the ability to accommodate 1000 delegates our venue for 2018 is self-contained, yet in easy reach of the beautiful sights and sounds of Venice.
A Paradigm Shift
A Paradigm Shift: a fundamental change in approach or underlying assumptions.
The theme for this year’s conference is “A Paradigm Shift”.
While we know that change is constant within our channel, the speed of that change has never been as fast as it is now. We have always been witness to consolidation, however, in a world where our competitors have traditionally traded in other channels, we are now seeing them move into the wholesale arena – the biggest example of which is the country’s leading supermarket chain, Tesco merging with the country’s largest wholesaler, Booker.
Based on the huge changes that are happening in our industry, our conference will explore the rapid shifts in this very competitive landscape and the challenges and opportunities this presents to us.
We will also think about the ways in which organisations need to re-invent themselves when change happens and by re-appraising and re-energising collaborations to respond and how those that have considered themselves competitors in the past can also collaborate for the greater good.
What’s In Store?
Our conference will open traditionally on Friday evening as we gather together for an informal waterside buffet at the Hotel Molino Stucky giving you an opportunity to relax and network with colleagues and friends following your journey.
We have taken your feedback from previous years and will once again include member and supplier presentations during our business sessions to provide interesting insight into their successes and challenges and how we can work better together to manage the changes that the channel faces. We have also arranged a number of interactive panel sessions that will require some delegate participation!
There will of course be sufficient time for you to enjoy your beautiful surroundings that is the city of Venice and have arranged a series of excursions for you to enjoy.
Our evening agenda has once again been carefully constructed to maximise networking and casual business discussions away from the conference room, however, with your enjoyment being the priority.
Following the huge success of the Golf Competition over the last couple of years we will once again be staging a golf tournament on Sunday afternoon at one of Italy’s oldest courses, The Circolo Golf Venezia, which dates back to 1928.
The course is located on a spectacular strip of land between the Adriatic Sea and the Lagoon of Venice. A par 72 course over 6039 metres, the course will challenge golfers of all handicaps.
There is a limit to the number of players that can compete in the golf tournament, so it will be very much on a first come, first served basis.
Our Gala Dinner
Monday afternoon will conclude our business agenda and will leave everyone with more than enough time to prepare for our Gala Dinner and annual supplier awards. Please note that this year the dress code will be smart casual (no jeans).
All the information you require is contained within the conference pack, including key contact names and telephone numbers.
Our conference website www.todaysgroupconference.co.uk and Today’s Events app will also contain all these details to ensure that you have everything you need at your fingertips.
Choose to book online or simply complete and return the editable PDF booking form, whichever suits you best.
So, we have everything organised, all we need now is you! Please join my team and I in Venice from the 14th – 18th September 2018 for what promises to be another memorable conference.
